Tripura: 2 Detained While Smuggling Cannabis, Buffaloes To Bangladesh

A massive consignment of narcotics along with some buffaloes was intercepted in Tripura while being illegally smuggled to Bangladesh, officials informed on Thursday.

According to officials, two smugglers were also detained during the operation that was carried out based on specific information about a possible smuggling bid.

Sources said that the narcotics included 42 kilograms of cannabis along with 14 buffaloes that were intercepted while being smuggled from Tripura to Bangladesh.

Officials informed that the seizure was estimated to be worth around Rs 28,42,695 in the international markets.

Earlier this month, in a major haul, the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel recovered four packets containing eight gold biscuits worth over Rs. 70 lakhs in Tripura on July 12.

Acting on intelligence inputs, the BSF carried out a special operation within the area of responsibility of the 69 Battalion of BSF at BOP B N Das Para in the South District.

The operation led to the seizure of four packets containing eight gold biscuits that weighed around 1165 grams. The market value of the seized gold biscuits is Rs. 70,44,325.

The BSF in a press release stated, “The BSF received specific intelligence regarding the smuggling of gold within the area of responsibility of 69th battalion of BSF at BOP BN Das Para. Promptly acting on the information, BSF troops were alerted and deployed at the location carrying out a special operation and recovering four packets suspected to be gold biscuits. The seized gold weighs approximately 1165 grams and 705 milligrams, with an estimated value of Rs 70,44,325.”

“The disposal of seized gold has been done as per procedure,” it added.
