Noted theatre artist from Assam Shukracharjya Rabha passes away

Assam lost another prominent artist this year as Sukracharjya Rabha, an eminent theatre personality passed away on Friday after suffering a stroke.

Shukracharjya Rabha was known for regularly organizing workshops for rural artists and the very successful 'Under The Sal Tree Theatre Festival' each year with his group Badungduppa.

He was awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of Sangeet Natak Akademi in the 2009 for his notable contibution in the field of theatre direction.

The theater festival gave him nationwide recognition with a number of national media covering his unique feat as he used the nature which included the forests and bamboo groves as their stage. He made a name for himself and his art of storytelling by touring various places with their innovative dramas that required no sound, light or music.

Shukracharjya Rabha directed 12 plays multiple languages, i.e. Rabha, Bodo and Nepali languages. Some of his plays were Tikhar, Changkoy, Rupalim, Hati aru Fandi, Lovita, To'Poidom, Madaiah Muchi, Dangai and Damukchi which were performed widely.
