Two records for Imran Tahir in WC opening game

Pratidin Bureau

South African spinner Imran Tahir on Thursday made tworecords in the very first over of the first match of the ICC Cricket World Cup2019 against host England. Tahir became the first spinner to bowl the openingover of any WC match. He also took a wicket in the first over of the tournament.

It may be mentioned here that it was the first time that Tahir had ever opened the bowling for his team in an ODI. In the second ball of the over, Tahir had Jonny Bairstow caught behind for a duck.

In 1992, Dipak Patel had opened the bowling for New Zealand during the World Cup but he had bowled the second over. Tahir also became the oldest player to represent South Africa at the World Cup at the age of 40 years and 64 days.
