Syed Modi International: Saina Nehwal falter in final hurdle

Pratidin Bureau

India's star shuttler Saina Nehwal lost to Chinese youngster Han Yue in the women's singles final of the Syed Modi International World Tour Super 300 tournament in Lucknow on Sunday. The former champion looked erratic and lacklustre in a summit clash that lasted only 34 minutes, losing in straight sets 18-21, 8-21.

Han Yue, the Chinese finalist looked in fine form and a class ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games champion and Asian Games bronze medallist. To Saina's disappointment, she had also finished as Runners-Up at the Indonesia Masters in January and Denmark Open in October this year.

In the Men's Doubles Final, Commonwealth Games silver medallists duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also went down in straight games against second seeds Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto of Indonesia.
