After Marking 100-day milestone, New Zealand Reports Fresh COVID Cases

Pratidin Bureau

Just two days after New Zealand had marked the 100-day milestone with no recorded cases of COVID-19 across the country, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, as reported by AFP, announced on Tuesday that the country recorded four positive cases in a single-family in Auckland, the country's largest city.

The development has led the government to impose a stay-at-home lockdown in Auckland for at least three days from Wednesday.
The report quoted the PM as saying in a televised address, "After 102 days, we have our first cases of COVID-19 outside of managed isolation or quarantine facilities… we have all worked incredibly hard to prevent this scenario."

She quickly added, "We have also planned and prepared for it."
It is to be noted that New Zealand was much praised by WHO for its strategy against the pandemic.

The health organization, until today, even held the country as an example for others for having "successfully eliminated community transmission.
