US Elections: Trump Refuses Peaceful Transfer of Power if Loses

Pratidin Bureau

In a bewildering as well as a partly shocking development, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday denied giving guarantee to a peaceful transfer of power if he loses in the upcoming Presidential elections, as per an AFP report.

At a White House press conference, when asked if he was committed to the most basic tenet of democracy, he was quoted as saying, "Well, we're going to have to see what happens."

Reiterating his complaint against and disapproval of the increasing use of the mail-in ballots due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he was quoted as commenting, "You know that I've been complaining very strongly about the ballots and the ballots are a disaster.

Without mincing any words, he suggested annulling the mail-in ballots system and said, "Get rid of the ballots and you'll have a very peaceful — there won't be a transfer, frankly. There'll be a continuation."

It must be mentioned here that Trump is currently behind in the polls against Democratic challenger Joe Biden.
