At least 10 were killed and 40 injured in the earthquake that shook eastern Indonesia on Sunday, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS)

The earthquake, reported to be of 6.4 magnitude on the Richter scale, struck the densely populated Lombok region, a popular tourist destination. The tremor was reported to be shallow, and occurred at a depth of 7 kilometers (4.4 miles).

The earthquake was on land and has not triggered any waves or tsunami, and the local authorities have not issued any warning for a tsunami. The USGS too has not issued a warning for the same. However, a landslide was triggered at Mount Rinjani, an active volcano in the region.

Several damaged buildings have been reported from Lombok, which is located near Bali  and is known for its pristine beaches and mountains.

Indonesia is located in the Pacific 'Ring of Fire', an area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean which is scattered with fault lines and active volcanoes, which makes it susceptible to frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
