Anna Burns won the 2018 Man Booker Prize for her novel "Milkman" during a ceremony Tuesday at London's Guildhall.

She is the first Northern Irish writer to win Britain's most prestigious literary prize. "Milkman" is set during Ireland's "Troubles," as seen through the eyes of an 18-year-old girl.

Graywolf Press announced after the ceremony that it will publish "Milkman" in the U.S. on December 11.

The winner gets 50,000 pounds, about $66,000 (48,28,350.00 in Indian Rupee)

This year marks the Booker's 50th anniversary. The award was presented by Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

Burns' win returns the prize to a British writer after two straight wins by Americans.

George Saunders won the Booker last year for "Lincoln in the Bardo." Paul Beatty won in 2016 for his novel "The Sellout."
