At least five people including three children were among those killed in a shooting in the northern Ontario city of Canada on Monday, reported CBC News.

Sault Ste. Marie Police informed that they were probing the matter further. The crime scene wherein these people were found dead at two homes was under investigation, they said.

According to the report by CBC News, police said that they had responded to an emergency 911 call at around 10:20 pm to find a 41-year-old dead from a gunshot wound at 200 block Tancred Street.

The police officials then received a second call around 10 minutes later and found a 45-year-old with a gunshot wound.

Meanwhile, the bodies of a six-year-old and a 12-year-old, were also found from the crime scene, the investigating officials said, adding that they suspect that the children were also shot and killed.

Moreover, they found a 44-year-old dead too from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot, officials were quoted by CBC News as saying.

The police added that both these deaths were connected and were the result of intimate partner violence.

"Our community is once again faced with the tragic and unnecessary loss of life," Sault Ste. Marie police Chief Hugh Stevenson said in a release.

"The grief the families, friends and loved ones of the victims are facing is unimaginable. Our hearts go out to them. As our community grieves this tragedy, I urge everyone to please watch out for each other. If you are struggling, or if you see someone you know struggling, please make use of the mental health supports available in our community," he added.

Last month, two men died and six others suffered injuries in a shooting at a wedding reception in Ottawa, CBC News, Canada reported.

The victims were attending the reception at the Infinity Convention Centre on the 2900 block of Gibford Drive, off Hunt Club Road near the Ottawa International Airport, the report stated.
