Pratidin Bureau

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's son-in-law Captain (retired) Muhammad Safdar has been arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) at a rally in Rawalpindi, two days after being convicted and sentenced to jail imprisonment in a corruption case related to Panama Papers scandal.

Safdar's wife Maryam has been given a jail term as well.

The Islamabad Accountability Court had earlier sentenced Nawaz Sharif to 10 years jail imprisonment for owning assets beyond income and one year for not cooperating with anti-corruption authorities, while Safdar was sentenced one year rigorous imprisonment for non-cooperation.

It may be mentioned here that Safdar had gone underground after the verdict. He was arrested immediately by the NAB when he resurfaced at the rally in Rawalpindi.
