US withdraws from UN Human Rights Council

Pratidin Bureau

United States (US) has decided to quit its relation with United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council for allegedly being bias against Israel and hypocrisy of its members.

Recently, top UN human rights official criticized the US government for separating migrant parents from and children who crossed into US from Mexico seeking asylum.

But the decision came following a long year of efforts from US to condemn the UN human rights council into reform and to remove member states that themselves commit abuses.

The decision was announced in Washington by US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley alongside Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
