BREAKING: Assam CM Inaugurates Rukminigaon Flyover
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, on Sunday evening inaugurated the much-anticipated Bhagadatta Flyover-2 at Rukminigaon in Downtown Guwahati, a four-lane, 660-metre engineering feat aimed at easing some of the city’s worst traffic snarls.
For years, commuters traveling between Dispur and Six Mile have had to brave bumper-to-bumper traffic, especially during peak hours. The Rukminigaon junction, once a notorious chokepoint, is now expected to see smoother movement with the launch of this new flyover.
Constructed in a record time of just nine months, well ahead of schedule, the ₹112-crore project is a testament to Assam’s accelerated push toward urban transformation. Of the total cost, ₹88 crore was allocated for core construction, while the remaining amount went toward finishing works and allied infrastructure.
Named after the legendary King Bhagadatta of ancient Pragjyotishpur, the flyover symbolises the state’s cultural heritage and its ambitions for the future. It is poised to significantly reduce congestion and improve connectivity along one of Guwahati’s busiest urban corridors, marking yet another milestone in Assam’s journey toward sustainable and modern infrastructure development.
