IIT Guwahati Holds 27th Convocation, Honours Over 2,000 Graduates

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati celebrated its 27th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday at the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Auditorium on campus. A total of 2,093 degrees were conferred during the event, marking a significant milestone for the institute and its graduating students.

The event was graced by several distinguished guests. Dr. Rajendra Singh, Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson University, USA, attended as the Chief Guest. In his address, Dr. Singh urged the graduating students to aim high and pursue their goals with determination and clarity.

J.D. Patil, President of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, was present as the Guest of Honour. In his speech, Patil reflected on India’s economic growth, stating that if the current pace continues under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country’s GDP could increase ninefold by the year 2047.

The ceremony commenced with Professor Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, presenting the institute's Annual Report for the academic year 2024–25.

In total, 1,005 undergraduate, 818 postgraduate, and 270 PhD degrees were awarded during the convocation.

As part of the academic honours, four gold medals were awarded across undergraduate and postgraduate categories, including the prestigious President of India Gold Medal, the Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal, and the Governor of Assam Gold Medal.

Among the recipients, Srihari C. was awarded the President’s Gold Medal, while Abhijit Gautam received the Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal, in recognition of their academic excellence and overall performance.

The convocation marked a proud moment for students, faculty, and parents, celebrating not just academic achievements but also the growing global recognition of IIT Guwahati as a hub of excellence in science, technology, and innovation.
