Fans of the late Assamese music legend Zubeen Garg will be able to pay their respects at the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex in Sarusajai today. While the tribute was initially scheduled between 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, the timeline is expected to get delayed as Garg’s coffin makes its way slowly through Guwahati.
The vehicle carrying his mortal remains left the airport this morning but has been moving at a turtle’s pace, surrounded by thousands of grieving fans walking alongside. As of now, the cortege has reached Gauhati University and is expected to arrive at his Kahilipara residence within an hour, before proceeding to Sarusajai.
Crowds had begun gathering at Guwahati Airport since last night to catch a final glimpse of the legendary singer’s coffin, which arrived from New Delhi on an Air India Express flight. The outpouring of grief and respect has turned the streets of Guwahati into a moving tribute to the state’s most beloved cultural icon.
