A shocking incident has been reported in Assam's Bokajan where a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by a youth identified as Ranjit Basumatary. After committing the brutal crime, the accused reportedly threw the child's body into a well and fled the scene.
On Tuesday evening, locals spotted the accused hiding in a dense forest. He was apprehended by the public and handed over to the Bokajan police.
However, the arrested rapist Ranjit attempted to escape from the police custody during the night, prompting the police to open fire. He was shot in the leg during the police firing.
The Incident in Detail
The body of the missing minor girl was recovered from a water well on Tuesday, a day after she was reported missing. The victim, the daughter of Suraj Purty and Sunita Purty from Amarajan under the Bokajan Police Station, had gone missing around noon on Monday. Following a complaint filed by the child's mother at the Bokajan police station, a search operation was launched.
Tragically, the body of the little girl was found in a well located in front of a rented house near her own residence. Police suspect she was strangled to death with a piece of cloth, based on visible injury marks found on her neck.
