Dimoria Trading Scam Busted, Crores Duped, One Arrested

A major financial fraud has come to light in Dimoria's Khetri area, where hundreds of people were allegedly duped by a self-proclaimed director of a trading company. The accused, Jitumoni Kalita, was arrested by Khetri police on Sunday in connection with a multi-crore scam.

Kalita, posing as the director of a firm named "Unnati Trading," is accused of collecting large sums of money from unsuspecting individuals across Dimoria and the adjoining nearby areas. Under the guise of investment and savings schemes, the company promised attractive returns, which were never fulfilled.

Speaking to the media, the accused Jitumoni Kalita said, “Even I cannot say exactly how much money was collected in total. The actual amount will only be known after all 14 people involved are questioned.”

Tensions flared on Sunday when hundreds of aggrieved depositors gathered outside the Khetri police station after repeated attempts to recover their money failed. The protest created a chaotic situation, prompting swift police action.

Following preliminary investigations, the Khetri police registered a case and arrested Jitumoni Kalita, launching a formal probe into the scam. He allegedly embezzled crores of rupees from hard-working residents who trusted the scheme as a legitimate savings opportunity.

Authorities have begun questioning Kalita and are expected to widen the investigation to trace other possible individuals involved and recover the misappropriated funds.

The case has triggered widespread concern in the region, with calls growing louder for stricter regulation of unregistered financial schemes operating in rural Assam.
