Train services on the crucial Lumding–Badarpur hill section have once again been disrupted due to a landslide, causing several hours of delay for passengers traveling along the route. The incident occurred this afternoon, severely affecting train operations in the hilly terrain of Assam.
As per reports, the landslide occurred shortly after the Silchar-Guwahati Express departed from the Mupa Railway Station at around 2 pm. Within minutes of leaving the station, the train had to be halted after railway personnel noticed debris and loose earth blocking the tracks, a result of soil sliding down from the adjacent hillside.
Following this, the train was immediately brought to a stop and subsequently reversed back to Mupa Station as a precautionary measure. Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway officials quickly responded to the situation, and after nearly three hours of clearance and restoration work, the affected section was deemed safe for operations.
The Silchar-Guwahati Express resumed its journey from Mupa Station at around 5 pm once the tracks were cleared and safety inspections were completed.
However, officials remain cautious, as loose soil continues to slip from the hillsides due to recent rains, posing a threat of further disruptions. Train operations in the Lumding–Badarpur hill section are likely to be affected again if fresh landslides occur.
