Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has launched a sharp counterattack against the BJP and the RSS, saying he does not operate according to the script of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), an organisation that, he claims, contributed nothing to India's freedom struggle.
Responding to BJP MLA Diplu Ranjan Sharma's accusation that Gogoi criticises the RSS just like Pakistan’s Prime Minister and military generals do, the Congress leader stated, “I do not work according to the RSS script. An organisation that had no role in India’s independence movement, that had not a single freedom fighter, cannot dictate how I function.”
Gogoi also strongly criticised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s controversial comment suggesting that if someone dares to throw beef at Hindu places of worship, pork should be thrown at theirs in retaliation.
“True followers of Hinduism never attempt to defile other religions. Unfortunately, the Chief Minister has failed to understand the essence of Hinduism,” Gogoi remarked.
His comments have added fuel to the ongoing political and communal discourse in Assam, where tensions have escalated following recent allegations of religious provocation and retaliatory statements from leaders across party lines.
