Poet Nilim Kumar Chosen for Dr. C. Narayana Reddy Viswambhara Award

Renowned Assamese poet Nilim Kumar has been selected for the prestigious 'Viswambhara' National Award, instituted in memory of the legendary Telugu poet and Jnanpith Awardee Dr. C. Narayana Reddy. The award, presented annually by the Smt. Suseela Narayana Reddy Trust will be conferred on Kumar during the 94th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. Reddy on July 29, 2025, at Ravindra Bharati, Hyderabad.

The announcement was made via a press release issued on Sunday by Trust Chairperson C. Ganga and General Secretary Dr. J. Chennaiah. The award carries a cash prize of ₹5 lakh, a memento, and a citation.

Widely regarded as one of the most powerful poetic voices of contemporary Assamese literature, Nilim Kumar has published 24 volumes of poetry to date. His contributions to Indian poetry have earned him several national recognitions, including the Kusumagraj National Award and the Udayabharati National Award.

Kumar’s poems have been translated into several Indian and foreign languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi, Bengali, English, Spanish, German, and French. His works are also featured in the syllabi of various universities across India, reflecting his broad literary impact.

The Trust also informed that the Hon’ble Governor of Telangana, Jishnu Dev Varma, has been invited to grace the event as the Chief Guest.
