Assam: 16-Year-Old Dies of JE

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, there has been a spike in the cases of Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JE). A teenage boy succumbed to JE on Thursday at Majuli.

The deceased has been identified as Abhilash Bora of Borbeel village in Majuli. He was under treatment at a Dibrugarh hospital since July 16 and died breathed his last today.

According to data from the National Health Mission (NHM), 48 people died of Japanese Encephalitis and other Acute Encephalitis Syndrome out of 331 reported cases in Assam this year.

However, today's death took the toll to 49.
