Assam Rifles Jawan from Gohpur Found Dead in Manipur

An Assam Rifles jawan from Gohpur was found lying dead near 1st IRB Kote located inside 36 Assam Rifles Hqs in Churachandpur on Sunday.

The deceased jawan has been identified as Gopal Biswakarma (48), a jawan of 36 Assam Rifles deployed in Manipur's Sripur. Though the casualty due is confirmed, the reason for the death is not yet known.

According to a statement issued by the Defence PRO, the jawan was found in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound in the wee hours today while he was on duty in Manipur's Sripur, however, the exact reason for his death has not been ascertained yet.

The statement said, "The death of the individual of Assam Rifles, today, deployed in Manipur is confirmed. However, he was found in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound. An FIR has been registered in this regard with the local police station and the reason for the death is under investigation. There was no attack on the post."

Gopal Biswakarma was a resident of Rajabari in Gohpur. He had joined the Assam Rifles in 2002. Reportedly, he left for Manipur from his home on April 16 after a 60-day long leave.

He is survived by his elderly mother, two daughters, wife and four elder brothers.

Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended at Rajabari after the jawan's death was reported.
