Ranjan Daimary, the chairman of the now-disbanded armed separatist group National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) was on Friday exonerated by a TADA (Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act) court in Guwahati in a case related to the killings of six people in Udalguri in Assam in 1992.

According to the FIR lodged in the Udalguri police station in 1992 by one Chabilal Sharma, based on which the case (17/1992) was registered, militants opened indiscriminate firing killing five people on the spot and injuring another seriously who later succumbed.

A charge sheet was filed against Daimary and others by the police subsequently.

Meanwhile, the former NDFB chairman was arrested in a separate case in 2010 and was shown arrested in the massacre case in 2011.

Daimary alongside another accused Dhamakanta Bodo in the case have been facing trial in the case, while other accused have either died or have not been arrested yet.

It may be noted that Daimary and nine others are serving life sentences in the 2008 Assam serial blasts case in which 88 people lost their lives.
