A suspected poacher was shot and killed during an exchange of fire with forest personnel on Saturday night.

The incident was reported at Safapani locality in the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

The deceased has been identified as Puneswar Sargiary.

Meanwhile, the forest personnel has seized various objectionable items and tree cutting machines from his possession.

The body of the deceased was sent for post mortem.
