Assam down town University hosts State-Level NDLI Workshop

Assam down town University successfully hosted a one-day State-level workshop on the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) and the NDLI Club, in collaboration with the NDLI team from IIT Kharagpur. The event, held on July 21, was organised by the Hari Narayan Dutta Baruah Central Library of the university and brought together over 250 participants, including teachers, librarians, and students from across Northeast India.

The workshop commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Chancellor of Assam down town University, Dr. N. N. Dutta. This was followed by a welcome address from Vice Chancellor Dr. N. C. Talukdar, who emphasised the relevance of digital knowledge resources in contemporary education.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Samudra Gupta Kashyap, Chancellor of Nagaland University, delivered a keynote address on knowledge preservation. Drawing parallels with traditional institutions like the satras, he underscored the importance of safeguarding indigenous knowledge systems in the digital era.

Dr. B. Sutradhar, Joint Principal Investigator of NDLI, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the platform’s functions, outreach, and the role of the NDLI Club in enhancing academic access nationwide. He also led a technical quiz session that engaged participants and tested their understanding of digital learning tools.

The workshop featured technical lectures by Dr. Prasanta Kumar Deka and Mr. Sobhan Nath, offering deep insights into the operational and academic facets of NDLI. Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Pranveer Singh highlighted the growing importance of collaborative knowledge-sharing in a digitally connected world, while Prof. Sanjay Kumar Singh spoke on the broader impact of digital transformation in the education sector.

Among the distinguished attendees were Prof. Bandana Dutta, Architect Biswa Dutta, Registrar Dr. Ashim Barman, Dr. Ruhit Jyoti Konwar, and Professor of Practice Mr. Utpal Datta. Their presence added academic vibrancy and institutional significance to the event.

Dr. Rubi Goswami, the lead convenor of the workshop, informed the media that similar workshops are in the pipeline at the national level, aimed at expanding the reach and impact of digital academic platforms.

The day-long event concluded with a valedictory session. The entire workshop, including the inauguration, technical sessions, and closing ceremony, was anchored by Dr. Santosh Kumar Upadhyay and Dr. Dimpi Das Pathak, ensuring smooth and engaging proceedings throughout.

The workshop marked a crucial step toward promoting digital literacy and enhancing access to academic resources in the region.
