The tragic suicide of Ispihita Das has taken a political turn after her name was linked with a youth leader from the BJP, identified as Chintu Kalita. The two reportedly had a romantic relationship that lasted about a year.
Ispihita's family has made serious allegations against Chintu, prompting him to issue a public response. According to Chintu, he and Ispihita had a 20-minute phone conversation on the night of the incident. She also reportedly sent him four messages early in the morning, the last one reading, “I’m sorry.” Chintu claims he only saw the messages the next morning after a mutual friend informed him of her death.
Sources reveal that Ispihita named two women in her suicide note, but did not mention Chintu. In his defence, Chintu has denied any physical or mental abuse, saying, “I never subjected her to any form of torture.”
Chintu also claimed that Ispihita's home environment had been disturbed due to family issues, and alleged that her mother would often cause mental distress after consuming alcohol.
“This is not about the BJP or Congress. If I am guilty, let the law take its course. But I am suffering too,” Chintu told reporters, denying all allegations against him.
