Mukhrow Firing Incident: 5 Meghalaya MLAs Meet With Assam CM

Pratidin Time

A contingent of five MLAs from Meghalaya arrived in Dispur to meet with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday.

This comes amid tensions between the two states in the wake of an incident of firing at Mukhrow in the bordering region leading to the death of several civilians.

According to reports, the delegation of MLAs sought a thorough investigation from the Assam CM into the incident.

The delegation was led by Meghalaya’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Ernest Mawrie.

Moreover, the delegation also sought the cooperation of Assam government in solving the long-standing border issues between Assam and Meghalaya.

They further asked for the full cooperation of the government in Assam in the investigation of the Mukhrow firing incident from CM Sarma.

In that regard memorandum was submitted to the Assam CM by the Meghalaya delegation.

It may be noted that Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on November 28 convened a meeting between leaders of political parties and local MLAs regarding the recent firing incident at Mukroh village.

Chief Minister Sangma had briefed the political leaders on actions that have been taken and the future course of action to be taken by the state government regarding the firing incident.

Taking to twitter, CM Sangma wrote, “Held meeting with leaders of political parties and local MLAs to brief them regarding the actions that have been taken and the future course of action by the Govt regarding the firing incident at Mukroh where 5 individuals from Meghalaya & 1 from Assam lost their lives.”
