The doctors had also noted that in the state the average weight of newborns are around 2.5 kgs.

"It is a case of late delivery and we didn't realize that the baby will weigh 5.2 kg. It is a unique case. Both mother and the baby are now well. Normally the weight of newborn babies in Assam is around 2.5 to 3 kg. But 5 kg weight of a newborn is very rare. I discussed this with other doctors also and they don't anymore find newborn babies weighing above 5 kg at birth," the doctors were quoted as saying in an India Today report.

Moreover, Das had a delayed delivery. She was due on May 29.

Notably, Jaya Das and her husband Badal Das's first child weighed around 3.8 kgs during birth. This is the second child of Jaya Das and Badal Das.
