Meghalaya will wake up to vote for the assembly elections in the state on Monday. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma's National People's Party and the Congress look to take the fight to each other as United Democratic Party, Bharatiya Janata Party and Trinamool Congress are looking to cause upsets.
A total of 375 candidates are in the fray for the 60 assembly seats, of who, 233 are from national parties and 69 from state parties. In addition, there are a total of 44 independent candidates.
The state will go to polls alongside Nagaland on Monday (February 27). The results will be declared on March 2.
Independent candidate from North Shillong Michael Kharsyntiew alleged the State Mahila President of a political party distributing money while the voting process is still on in Oakland, Shillong.
Kharsyntiew rounded the vehicle that was reportedly surrounded by people. A few minutes later, Voice of the People Party (VPP) candidate Adelbert Nongrum reached the scene to enquire about the situation.

After the voter named Bikram Kumar Rai found that some one else by the same name had voted , the matter was taken up by the election officials who assured action of replacing the poll officials.

The election officer, East Khasi Hills has ordered a probe into a proxy voting case at Mizo Modern High School polling station, Nongrim Hills under Nongthymmai constituency.
Officials at a polling booth in Nongthymmai constituency were replaced after a case of illegal proxy voting was detected there.
The booth is located at Mizo Modern High School in Nongrim Hills.
One voter, Bikram Kumar Rai, was prevented from voting as he was told that a ballot in his name had already been cast.
A complaint was made to the Chief Electoral Officer, FR Kharkongor, and the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, SC Sadhu, who is also the District Election Officer, then rushed to the polling station to verify the incident.
As per the Election Commission of India, the highest voter turnout was recorded in Eastern West Khasi Hills at 36.96 per cent.
